The Controls and Automation Intern will work alongside Controls, Automation, and Process Development engineers to implement, maintain, and improve control systems. This role focuses on ensuring efficient plant operations and involves creating documentation for existing control systems within a manufacturing environment.
What you'll do#
- Support and lead the execution of automation projects, covering everything from concept design to implementation and validation.
- Ensure all activities comply with established safety and quality standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to optimize control systems and enhance manufacturing processes.
- Monitor and analyze key performance metrics to make data-driven decisions that improve overall plant performance.
- Provide regular updates to leadership and stakeholders regarding the progress of initiatives, including successes, challenges, and solutions.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to identify and resolve daily operational issues.
- Assist in the evaluation and selection of new control systems and technologies.
- Develop training materials and provide guidance for control system users.
What you'll need#
- Minimum of 2 years completed toward a 4-year bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- General knowledge of DCS platforms, including object and library-oriented software development (IEC61131 languages), graphics engines, and ISA-88 compliant batch systems.
- General knowledge of PLC equipment, specifically Rockwell FactoryTalk View SE, AssetCentre, and DriveExec.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve control system issues and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for presenting information and collaborating across multiple disciplines.
- Proficiency with standard software packages including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
