About the role#
This graduate co-op position focuses on expanding computational tools to assess the safety of small molecule drug candidates. You will work alongside computational scientists, medicinal chemists, and toxicologists to build strategies that provide predictive insights early in the drug discovery process. This role involves data assessment, model development, and direct collaboration with researchers to guide compound design and testing.
What you'll do#
- Identify, curate, and compare internal and external data, including chemical structures, assay results, and exposure information.
- Develop and evaluate modeling approaches, such as structural alerts, machine learning, and read-across methods.
- Assess model performance on relevant compounds and document the context of use, uncertainty, and limitations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to explore how model outputs influence compound prioritization.
- Deliver reproducible analyses, documented model prototypes, and recommendations for future development.
- Create mechanisms for model retraining as new data becomes available.
What you'll need#
- Must be 18 years or older and hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Currently enrolled in an MBA, Master’s, PharmD, or Ph.D. program, with at least one year of the program completed before the start date.
- Pursuing a degree in cheminformatics, bioinformatics, computational chemistry, biology, data science, statistics, toxicology, or a related field.
- Experience using Python to analyze scientific data.
- Familiarity with machine learning, statistical modeling, and principles of model evaluation.
- Experience with predictive toxicology, cheminformatics, or analysis of in vitro assay data.
- Familiarity with small molecule drug discovery or nonclinical safety assessment.
- Experience with version control, collaborative software development, and documenting reproducible computational workflows.
- Ability to communicate technical findings to scientists from various disciplines.
Location & details#
- This role is remote and based in the United States.
- The position is part-time with a rolling deadline.
- Compensation is $35.34 to $41.20 per hour.
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. for the duration of the program. Sponsorship for future roles is not provided.
