About the role#
This is a full-time summer internship based at our manufacturing facility in Erie, Pennsylvania. You will work directly with the Environmental, Health, & Safety (EH&S) team to support regulatory compliance, facility safety, and internal policy implementation. This role requires significant time on the production floor and collaboration with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.
What you'll do#
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining EH&S programs, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct safety compliance audits, including PPE and machine guarding assessments.
- Identify hazardous conditions and behaviors, helping to develop corrective and preventive actions.
- Create and co-facilitate safety training sessions, including content development and recordkeeping.
- Gather and analyze data for monthly EH&S metrics and performance tracking.
- Support emergency preparedness activities and respond to potential emergencies per established procedures.
- Assist with capital project safety evaluations and related documentation.
- Observe and report any non-conformity regarding product, service, or quality systems.
- Maintain security by managing key cards and preventing unauthorized entry.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Capacity to work both independently and within a team in a manufacturing environment.
- Preferred experience includes previous internships, coursework in industrial operations, familiarity with safety auditing or risk assessments, and exposure to continuous improvement methodologies.
