About the role#
This student position supports teaching laboratories within the chemistry and biochemistry programs. You will assist instructors with the preparation, setup, and cleanup of laboratory activities to ensure the effective operation of these spaces. This role is open to work study students and offers a paid, on-site opportunity.
What you'll do#
- Prepare solutions and laboratory materials using standard techniques.
- Set up and organize equipment, chemicals, and materials before and after laboratory periods.
- Test experiments to ensure they function as intended.
- Support students during scheduled laboratory periods by answering questions and monitoring their progress.
- Maintain and clean laboratory benches, cabinets, and preparation spaces.
- Dispose of chemical and laboratory waste following college policies.
- Review laboratory instructions and provide feedback to instructors.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least one chemistry course.
- Completion of the laboratory component for the specific chemistry course you are supporting.
- Experience with safe laboratory practices, analytical balances, and glassware.
- Ability to comply with safety mandates, including wearing a laboratory coat, pants, and safety glasses.
