Co-op, Junior GIS Analyst

About the role#

Aecon is seeking a Junior GIS Analyst Co-op to support geospatial data management for infrastructure, construction, and planning projects. You will work alongside the GIS and IDD teams to maintain spatial datasets, assist in the creation of maps and dashboards, and support both field and office operations. This role offers hands-on experience with enterprise GIS, CAD/BIM integration, and construction workflows. This is a full-time, paid position requiring a minimum 8-month commitment.

What you'll do#

• Support the GIS team in preparing, maintaining, and updating geospatial datasets across various projects.
• Assist in building and running FME workspaces for basic ETL tasks.
• Integrate CAD/BIM files into GIS datasets, including performing georeferencing and schema checks.
• Develop and update web maps and dashboards using ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise.
• Prepare field maps and provide support for mobile GIS tools such as Field Maps and Survey123.
• Conduct spatial QA/QC, data cleanup, and metadata entry.
• Participate in team meetings and provide general support to project teams.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in a diploma or degree program related to GIS, Geomatics, Geography, Environmental Science, or Engineering (including Environmental, Civil, Architecture, or Computer Science).
• Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro and fundamental geospatial concepts such as projections, editing, and geodatabases.
• A strong interest in learning enterprise GIS, CAD/BIM workflows, and ETL tools.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

• Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
• Work Modality: On-site.
• Compensation: $23 - $28 per hour, determined by factors including education, experience, and skills.
