About the role#
The Racial Justice Program (RJP) at the ACLU works to challenge racial discrimination and policies that negatively impact communities of color. The program focuses on health equity, housing, education, Indigenous justice, and economic justice. Interns support these efforts through litigation, legislative advocacy, and public education. This is a part-time internship for course credit only.
What you'll do#
- Conduct legal and factual research to support ongoing litigation, investigations, and advocacy.
- Review and code discovery productions.
- Produce and edit memos, research reports, and drafts of briefing.
- Participate in team meetings and client meetings.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in law school with completion of the first year before the start date.
- Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
- Initiative to see projects through to completion.
- A commitment to public interest law, civil liberties, and racial justice.
- Ability to center principles of equity, inclusion, and belonging in all work.
Location & details#
- Location: Remote or hybrid, based in New York, NY. Applicants must be based in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.
- Term: Winter 2027 (12 consecutive weeks).
- Start Dates: January 11 or January 25, 2027.
- Time Commitment: Part-time (10, 15, or 20 hours per week).
- Compensation: This position is unpaid and must be tied to academic credit or integrated coursework.
