About the role#
The LGBTQ & HIV Project at the ACLU offers a legal internship for students interested in civil liberties. This position supports our ongoing efforts to secure equal rights and autonomy for LGBTQ people and people living with HIV. You will work under the supervision of project attorneys on litigation, policy advocacy, and public education initiatives. This internship is for course credit only.
What you'll do#
- Conduct legal and fact research to support current and prospective litigation.
- Draft research memos and litigation documents, including discovery requests, affidavits, and motions.
- Research and write materials for legislative advocacy and public education.
- Manage projects from start to finish while collaborating with team members.
What you'll need#
- You must be a currently matriculated law student who has completed at least one year of law school.
- A demonstrated commitment to the protection of civil liberties for LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV.
- Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time-management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- The initiative to see projects through to completion.
Location & details#
- This role is available as a remote or hybrid position based in New York, NY.
- You must be based in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.
- The internship runs for 12 consecutive weeks starting January 11 or January 25, 2027.
- This is a part-time role requiring 10, 15, or 20 hours per week.
- Applicants must be able to receive academic credit for this internship.
