About the role#
The Center for Liberty focuses on reproductive freedom, LGBTQ rights, women’s rights, freedom of religion and belief, and disability rights. As a legal intern, you will support these priority areas, including work on family integrity, veteran’s rights, and mitigating discrimination justified by religion. This position is open to current law students and runs for 10 consecutive weeks.
What you'll do#
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support new and active litigation.
- Assist in drafting legal memoranda, pleadings, affidavits, motions, and briefs.
- Draft and edit public education and non-litigation advocacy materials.
- Provide support to ACLU affiliates and cooperating attorneys.
- Work with clients and participate in outreach with impacted communities, discovery, and trial practice.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least one semester of law school or enrollment in an LLM program.
- Ability to conduct complex legal analysis and fact finding.
- Excellent research, communication, and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Initiative to see projects through to completion and strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated commitment to public interest law, civil liberties, and racial justice.
- Interest in or previous experience with reproductive freedom, LGBTQ rights, women’s rights, freedom of religion, or disability rights.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship at $24 per hour.
- You may work remotely or in a hybrid capacity based in New York City.
- You must be based in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.
- The term is Summer 2027, with start dates of May 24 or June 7.
