American Express summer 2027 internships by track, with who each program is for, when to apply, and the interview steps described on its careers pages.

American Express has already posted its summer 2027 internships, and most of the United States postings are aimed at graduate students rather than undergraduates. The American Express student programs page describes separate undergraduate, MBA and sophomore finance internships in the US and a marketing internship in Canada, and its job search lists the individual postings by track. This guide covers what American Express publishes about each program, who it is for, and how the firm describes its hiring process.

Postings change quickly during the recruiting season, so the posting you apply through is the final word on its own terms. What American Express offers students#
The student programs page says the company has internships and full-time graduate opportunities in 13 locations, and that the internships bring students "one step closer to landing full-time roles with Team Amex upon graduation." For the Americas, it lists these programs:

The US programs are offered as hybrid roles in New York City, Phoenix, Sunrise, Salt Lake City, Atlanta, Palo Alto and Washington, D.C. The Canadian internship is hybrid in Toronto. The page also lists programs in Mexico, Europe and Asia Pacific, which this guide does not cover.
One point matters for planning. In the official job search on 21 October 2026, only two US Summer Internship Program postings were written for current undergraduates: Data Engineer in Sunrise, Florida and Digital Product Management in New York. Most of the other US summer 2027 postings were titled Campus Graduate Masters Summer Internship Program, with a handful for MBA and other graduate programs. If you are an undergraduate, read the eligibility line of each posting before you invest time in it.
Finance internships#
American Express lists a Sophomore Finance Internship of 9 weeks, which it describes as hands-on training on core analytical tools with a mentor for support. The student page asks for sophomores in their fall semester and says to apply in August to September.
The summer 2027 finance posting for undergraduates, Campus Undergraduate Summer Internship Program - 2027 Finance, no longer appears in the official search, and our listing for it shows applications closed on 1 October 2026.
An open finance option is the Campus Graduate MBA Summer Internship Program - 2027 Finance in New York. The posting describes a general finance internship with opportunities in one of these functional areas: Corporate Planning and Analysis, Global Commercial Services Finance, US Consumer Services Finance, Global Merchant and Network Finance, Controllership, and Global Treasury. It asks for a student enrolled in a full-time MBA program, a graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028, and two or more years of relevant full-time work experience. It also says the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for the position.

Software engineering and technology internships#
Technology has the most postings. The Software Engineer internship in Sunrise, Florida is a 10-week Summer Internship Program in Enterprise Technology Services. It is written for a full-time graduate degree student with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028. It asks for experience through coursework, projects, research or extracurricular activities in a language such as Java, JavaScript, Python, C# or Go, and a foundation in data structures, algorithms and debugging.
The undergraduate Data Engineer posting asks for a student in a full-time bachelor degree program in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, data engineering, data science or another technical field. It asks for foundational SQL and at least one language such as Python or Java, and it states that the team reviews applications on a rolling basis.
The Digital Product Management internship in New York is the other undergraduate option. It lists software engineering, business, MIS and business analytics as qualifying programs and asks for tools experience such as JIRA, Confluence, Excel and Tableau.

Cybersecurity, risk and audit#
American Express lists a Cybersecurity Analyst internship in New York, with matching postings in other US technology hubs. It is a 10-week program in Enterprise Technology Services. The posting asks for a graduate degree in cybersecurity, computer science, information systems, computer engineering, engineering or another technical field, a graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028, and a foundation in security concepts such as network protocols, identity and access management, and data protection. It also mentions an interest in scripting with Python, Bash or PowerShell.
For risk and audit, the US search also includes a Global Risk and Compliance internship in New York and an Operational Risk Management Control Management internship. In the United Kingdom, the company lists an Undergraduate Staff Auditor internship in London. We did not find a US undergraduate internal audit posting open in the search on 21 October 2026.
Marketing and business tracks#
Marketing postings are mostly graduate-level in the US. The Marketing internship for US Consumer Services in New York is one example, and the search also lists marketing postings for Global Commercial Services and Global Merchant and Network Services. The company also posts product development, product management, strategy and data analytics internships in the same program.
In Canada, the student page describes a 16-week marketing internship that covers functions such as Lending, Acquisition, Member Engagement, Merchant Marketing, Insurance, New Product Development, Project Management and Product Marketing. It offers winter (January to April), summer (May to August) and fall (September to December) terms, and says to apply in September, January and May respectively. In the official search on 21 October 2026, we did not find a Canadian student internship posting, so check the page again close to the January and May windows. When to apply#
American Express gives window guidance by program rather than one company-wide date. On the student programs page, the US undergraduate and sophomore finance internships list August to September, and the MBA internship lists September to November. The summer 2027 postings this guide links on the American Express careers site were open in the official job search on 21 October 2026, and no posting we read states a closing date in its text.
At least some of the technology postings state that the team reviews applications on a rolling basis. That is a reason to apply early in the window, which fits what we found in our analysis of when internship postings actually close. The application and interview process#
Applications go through the American Express careers site. The postings we read refer to an expected salary range and say pay depends on location, experience and other job-related factors, but no figure appeared in the posting text on 21 October 2026. We have left pay out rather than guess, so check the posting itself.
The US section of the student programs page lists this selection process:
Round 1: submit a video recording answering behavioural questions relevant to the role.
Round 2: two 30-minute interviews on the HireVue platform for selected candidates. Candidates applying to technology roles also complete a technical assessment.
The Canadian marketing internship lists three rounds: a virtual interview with a hiring leader to assess leadership attributes and soft skills, a second virtual interview with a different hiring leader about your professional background and role fit, and a final phone screen with a recruiter.
The company also publishes a recruitment fraud notice, and it is worth reading before you respond to any message about an application.
