About the role#
Zoox is looking for a student worker to join the firmware team. You will focus on diagnostic services for thermal and body systems. This role involves owning foundational projects and working through the full development cycle of robot firmware.
What you'll do#
- Develop diagnostics for autonomous vehicle software to ensure effective fault detection, reactions, and serviceability.
- Design, develop, and test embedded software for body, thermal, lighting, and door functions.
- Manage all phases of the software development cycle, from prototyping and requirements capture to design, implementation, and validation.
- Work with system, software, hardware, and test engineers to define and validate diagnostic requirements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's program in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Proficiency in modern C++ for firmware development.
- Experience with Python programming.
- Experience working with embedded micro-controllers or microprocessors, such as ARM or PowerPC.
- Basic knowledge of control systems for electromechanical systems.
- Familiarity with C++ unit testing principles and frameworks like gtest.
- Hands-on experience with hardware bring-up and system debugging.
- Understanding of sensors, actuators, and automotive communication protocols like CAN or LIN.
Location & details#
- This is a hybrid position based in Foster City, CA, San Diego, CA, or Seattle, WA.
- You must be able to commute on-site to one of these offices.
- This is a contract role requiring at least 20 hours per week for a 6-month project.
- Employment is through a vendor contracted with Zoox.
