About the role#
The Medical Advocate Internship provides support to survivors of sexual assault within the Sexual Violence Support Services Program. Interns gain experience in crisis intervention and counseling while working alongside veteran advocates and partner organizations. This is an unpaid, part-time position requiring an on-call schedule.
What you'll do#
- Provide 24-hour medical advocacy at hospital emergency rooms and police districts.
- Offer comfort and support during hospital examinations, evidence collection, and police interviews when permitted by the survivor.
- Maintain a non-judgmental and supportive attitude toward all survivors.
- Complete the mandatory 40+ hour Crisis Intervention Training.
- Coordinate with veteran advocates and sister organizations.
What you'll need#
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to commit to the program for one year.
- A personal vehicle and a valid driver's license.
- A mobile phone for communication.
- Flexibility to accommodate a varying work schedule.
- Preferred academic background in Psychology, Public Health, or Nursing.
