The Medical Advocate Internship provides support to survivors of sexual assault within the Safety and Wellness department. This role focuses on crisis intervention and advocacy, offering practical experience in the non-profit sector and the opportunity to work alongside veteran advocates.
What you'll do#
- Provide 24-hour medical advocacy by responding to hospital emergency rooms and police districts.
- Offer comfort and support to survivors during hospital examinations, evidence collection, and police interviews, provided you have the survivor's permission.
- Maintain a non-judgmental and supportive attitude toward all survivors.
- Complete a mandatory 40+ hour Crisis Intervention Training program.
- Engage with veteran advocates and partner organizations to support service delivery.
What you'll need#
- Must be 18 years or older.
- A one-year service commitment is required.
- A personal vehicle, a valid driver's license, and a mobile phone are mandatory.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Preferred academic backgrounds include Psychology, Public Health, or Nursing.
