About the role#
As a Medical Advocate Intern, you will provide 24-hour crisis support to survivors of sexual assault. This role involves responding to hospital emergency rooms and police districts to offer comfort and support during examinations, evidence collection, and police interviews. You will work within the Safety and Wellness department and gain experience in crisis intervention while collaborating with veteran advocates and partner organizations.
What you'll do#
- Provide on-call medical advocacy at hospital emergency rooms and police districts.
- Offer comfort and support to survivors during medical exams and interviews.
- Maintain a non-judgmental and supportive attitude toward all survivors.
- Complete a 40+ hour Crisis Intervention Training program.
- Engage with veteran advocates and other sister organizations to support program goals.
What you'll need#
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to commit to the role for one year.
- A personal vehicle and a valid driver's license.
- A reliable mobile phone.
- A flexible schedule to accommodate on-call duties.
- Academic background in Psychology, Public Health, or Nursing is preferred.
