About the role#
As a Medical Advocate Intern, you support survivors of sexual assault by providing 24-hour advocacy at hospital emergency rooms and police districts. This role centers on offering comfort and support during difficult moments, including medical examinations, evidence collection, and police interviews. You will work alongside veteran advocates and partner organizations to assist with crisis recovery.
What you'll do#
- Provide 24-hour advocacy at hospital emergency rooms and police districts.
- Offer comfort to survivors during medical exams, evidence collection, and police interviews.
- Maintain a supportive, non-judgmental attitude toward all survivors.
- Complete 40+ hours of mandatory Crisis Intervention Training.
- Connect with experienced advocates and sister organizations to build your skills.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- A one-year service commitment is required.
- You need a personal vehicle and a valid driver's license.
- A mobile phone is required for this role.
- You must be comfortable with a flexible work schedule.
- Preferred academic backgrounds include Psychology, Public Health, or Nursing.
