About the role#
The Medical Advocate Internship provides an opportunity to gain experience in crisis recovery and support. Interns serve as on-call advocates to provide 24-hour medical advocacy at hospital emergency rooms and police districts. This role requires a non-judgmental, supportive attitude toward survivors of sexual assault and the ability to demonstrate crisis counseling skills.
What you'll do#
- Provide 24-hour medical advocacy to hospital emergency rooms and police districts.
- Offer comfort and support during hospital examinations, evidence collection, and police interviews with the survivor's permission.
- Interact with veteran advocates and sister organizations.
- Complete required training and maintain a one-year service commitment.
What you'll need#
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Ability to commit to one year of service.
- Completion of the 40+ hour Crisis Intervention Training.
- Personal vehicle and a valid driver's license.
- Educational background in Psychology, Public Health, or Nursing is preferred.
