The Medical Advocate Internship provides hands-on experience in crisis recovery and support. Interns work within the Safety and Wellness department to assist survivors of sexual assault, gaining exposure to crisis counseling and professional advocacy networks.
What you'll do#
- Provide 24-hour medical advocacy by responding to hospital emergency rooms and police districts.
- Offer comfort and support to survivors during hospital examinations, evidence collection, and police interviews, contingent upon survivor permission.
- Demonstrate crisis counseling skills in sensitive situations.
- Engage and collaborate with veteran advocates and sister organizations.
- Complete all required training and maintain the internship commitment.
What you'll need#
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- A non-judgmental, supportive attitude toward survivors of sexual assault.
- Ability to fulfill a one-year service commitment.
- Completion of the 40+ hour Crisis Intervention Training.
- A personal vehicle and a valid driver's license.
