    About the role#

    The Medical Advocate Internship provides hands-on experience in crisis recovery and support. You will serve as a source of comfort and assistance for survivors of sexual assault in high-pressure environments. This role requires an on-call availability and a dedication to supporting individuals through medical and legal processes.

    What you'll do#

    • Provide 24-hour medical advocacy at hospital emergency rooms and police districts.
    • Stay with survivors during hospital examinations, evidence collection, and police interviews, provided you have their permission.
    • Demonstrate crisis counseling skills while maintaining a supportive, non-judgmental attitude.
    • Collaborate with veteran advocates and sister organizations.
    • Complete all required training and maintain your commitment to the program.

    What you'll need#

    • You must be at least 18 years old.
    • Ability to commit to one year of service.
    • Completion of the 40+ hour Crisis Intervention Training.
    • A personal vehicle and a valid driver's license.
    • Academic background in Psychology, Public Health, or Nursing is preferred.

    • This position is based in Addison, Illinois.
    • The role is on-site and requires an on-call schedule.
    • This is an unpaid internship.
