About the role#
Wing is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our team in Palo Alto. You will work on hardware for our aircraft and ground infrastructure. This role covers the full design cycle, from initial concepts to final manufacturing releases. You will take ownership of specific projects, design components, and solve technical problems while working with cross-functional teams.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to aircraft and ground infrastructure design across all phases of the design cycle.
- Brainstorm creative solutions and perform rapid prototyping to iterate on components.
- Execute detailed product designs in CAD for manufacturing-ready parts.
- Conduct engineering analysis using hand calculations and FEA.
- Develop and execute test plans to validate mechanical and mechatronic assemblies.
- Use additive manufacturing and 3D printing for functional prototypes.
- Assemble hardware and gain hands-on lab experience.
- Integrate and evaluate electromechanical systems, including actuators, motors, and sensors.
- Perform environmental and reliability testing, such as drop, vibration, and thermal tests.
- Document analysis, write test reports, and present design choices to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external vendors.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field.
- Expected graduation date between December 2027 and August 2028.
- Experience with mechanical design, CAD, and FEA.
- Understanding of manufacturing methods, specifically plastic injection molding.
- Experience with additive manufacturing technologies.
- Demonstrated hands-on lab and hardware build experience.
- Familiarity with mechatronics and electromechanical systems like sensors or motors.
- Knowledge of reliability testing methodologies.
- Strong communication skills to justify design choices.
- A proactive, self-starter attitude.
