About the role#
Willowrun Veterinary Hospital offers a clinical externship for veterinary students to gain practical experience in a small animal practice. This program supports your transition from the classroom to clinical practice. You will work alongside our veterinary team to refine your skills and participate in all aspects of patient care. Rotations are flexible, typically lasting two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks to fit your college curriculum. Your schedule will include days, evenings, and weekends. A stipend of $250 per week is provided.
What you'll do#
Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will:
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Assist in the management of medical cases and provide wellness care.
- Scrub in to surgery.
- Polish your technical skills and client communication.
- Produce medical records, including SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Current professional liability insurance.
- Familiarity with the Veterinary Practice Act regarding the scope of duties and required supervision.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
