About the role#
Whispering Pines Animal Hospital offers a practical externship program for veterinary students. This program provides hands-on experience in a small animal practice to help you prepare for your career after graduation. You will work alongside our veterinary team under the supervision of a mentor doctor. The program is flexible, with rotations typically lasting two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks depending on your curriculum requirements. You will receive a stipend of $250 per week.
What you'll do#
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans for medical cases.
- Scrub in to surgery and assist in patient management.
- Provide wellness care to patients.
- Develop client communication skills.
- Polish your technical skills.
- Produce accurate medical records and SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Current professional liability insurance.
- Familiarity with the Veterinary Practice Act regarding your scope of duties.
- A professional demeanor and appearance at all times.
