About the role#
We are looking for a Geospatial AI Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This role is based in our Huntsville, Alabama office. You will work on real projects for our public and private clients, gaining experience with remote sensing, spatial analytics, and machine learning. You will be paired with a technical mentor to help bridge the gap between your academic studies and professional engineering work.
What you'll do#
- Prepare and clean geospatial data, including lidar, satellite imagery, and vector datasets.
- Support the development and evaluation of AI and machine learning models for feature extraction, classification, and image segmentation.
- Use tools such as Python, ArcGIS, QGIS, Solv3D, and cloud-based geospatial platforms.
- Build and test geospatial workflows and automation pipelines.
- Create maps and summaries to visualize AI model results.
- Document your code, processes, and findings.
- Collaborate with lidar analysts, GIS analysts, and data scientists on active projects.
- Participate in team meetings, technical discussions, and brainstorming sessions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a 4-year degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Geospatial Science, Data Science, or a related STEM field.
- Completed coursework in programming, specifically Python, data structures, or machine learning fundamentals.
- An interest in geospatial data, remote sensing, and AI applications.
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to work independently and follow technical guidance.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with GIS platforms like ArcGIS Pro or QGIS is preferred.
- Experience with geospatial data libraries such as GDAL, rasterio, or geopandas is a plus.
- Exposure to machine learning libraries like scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
- Experience using Git or GitHub for version control.
- Previous internships, personal projects, or coursework related to spatial analysis, AI, or remote sensing.
