About the role#
This Summer 2027 internship supports the West Coast Design team at Welltower. You will gain hands-on experience with large-scale design projects for senior living residential real estate. The role covers the full project lifecycle, from initial design development through construction management, installation, and final closeout. You will work closely with the Interior Design team on sourcing, project documentation, field coordination, and vendor communication.
What you'll do#
- Support the design team through all project phases, including construction management and installation.
- Assist with sourcing furniture, fabrics, fixtures, and finishes.
- Create furniture, fabric, finish, and material studies.
- Prepare and maintain finish schedules, specifications, furnishing budgets, product logs, and shop drawings.
- Coordinate with architects, contractors, vendors, and operator partners.
- Assist with scheduling installations, field verification, and punch-list completion.
- Attend design presentations, progress meetings, frame walks, and final site walks.
- Maintain project documentation and assist with vendor invoice coordination.
- Build relationships with design showrooms, consultants, and internal team members.
- Stay current with design trends, building codes, and industry standards.
- Use software including AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, Microsoft Office, SketchUp, and Design Manager.
- Escalate project issues to the Interior Design Manager and assist the VP of Design with special projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Interior Design, Architecture, Interior Architecture, or a related field.
- Interest in hospitality, multi-family, commercial, or senior living design.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to organize, multitask, prioritize, and manage deadlines effectively.
- Willingness to learn building codes and ADA accessibility principles.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to travel, including occasional overnight trips and flights.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship for Summer 2027.
- Locations: San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, California.
- This role requires regular travel, up to 50%, to properties throughout Northern and Southern California, as well as occasional travel to regional offices and design showrooms.
- Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and drug screening.
