    About the role#

    The Civil/Structural Engineering Intern joins the Wells Engineering Development Program. You will gain hands-on experience by rotating through quality control, field services, and engineering design. This role involves working alongside Professional Engineers and field leaders to build technical skills and explore long-term career paths in the precast industry. Compensation is $25 per hour.

    What you'll do#

    • Shadow Quality Control technicians and support plant inspection activities.
    • Perform concrete testing in laboratory settings and evaluate samples.
    • Learn to use Concrete Vision or similar production tracking systems.
    • Conduct pre-pour inspections, including formwork checks and readiness verification.
    • Gain exposure to mix designs, finishes, quality metrics, and non-conformance reporting.
    • Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Shadow field supervisors to assist with layout, jobsite coordination, and problem-solving.
    • Interpret blueprints and communicate work plans to field crews.
    • Assist with survey equipment to verify alignment and installation accuracy.
    • Coordinate with dispatch regarding scheduling, sequencing, and logistics.
    • Support field operations and assist with progress reporting and documentation.
    • Follow safety procedures, including bracing plans and site-specific requirements.
    • Work with design engineers on precast products like beams, double tees, and wall panels.

    What you'll need#

    • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering.
    • Interest in precast concrete, structural design, and construction operations.
    • Basic understanding of engineering principles and construction drawings.
    • Analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to learn technical systems and field processes quickly.
    • Strong communication skills and a commitment to teamwork.
    • Attention to detail and a focus on quality and safety.
    • Ability to work in office, plant, and field environments.
    • Valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
    • Self-motivation and a desire to grow within the engineering field.

    • Location: Rosemount, Minnesota.
    • Modality: On-site.
    • Term: Rolling.
    • Employment type: Full-time, paid internship.
    • Physical requirements: You must be able to wear required PPE, navigate industrial environments, climb stairs, and walk on uneven surfaces. You may be exposed to outdoor weather, noise, dust, vibration, and moving equipment.
