About the role#
This role supports approximately 200 medical students throughout their journey from matriculation to graduation. You will report to the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Career Development. The position focuses on fostering student success through direct counseling and administrative support within the School of Medicine.
What you'll do#
- Provide daily academic and personal counseling to a caseload of at least 200 medical students.
- Facilitate individual and group sessions focused on emotional health, professional development, and career advising.
- Create and evaluate health and wellness programs that align with the medical curriculum.
- Represent the Office of Student Affairs and Career Development on university and school committees.
- Support leadership initiatives including mentoring, career advising, and wellness programming.
- Participate in regional and national activities of the AAMC.
What you'll need#
- Master’s degree in counseling, student personnel, social work, or psychology. A doctorate is preferred.
- Five to eight years of experience working with students, preferably in a medical education setting.
- Ability to manage a high volume of students while addressing diverse academic and personal challenges.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle crisis and conflict resolution.
- Knowledge of mental health and human services referral agencies in the tri-county area.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with student policies, administrative structures, and organizational procedures.
- Research skills or a track record of scholarly activity are highly desirable.
