About the role#
We are seeking a Safety Methodologies Intern to support the development and implementation of frameworks for our driverless readiness decisions. You will help us quantitatively validate the safety of our autonomous trucking solution by using our simulator and real-world data. This role is for the Summer 2027 term, operating on a full-time basis.
What you'll do#
- Develop Python scripts and tools to calculate quantitative metrics and visualize complex data for collision assessment.
- Support the optimization of data pipelines and automated assessment workflows used for safety validation.
- Explore large crash databases and apply multivariate modeling techniques to predict collision-related metrics.
- Gain an in-depth understanding of publicly available safety resources.
- Conduct A/B testing on collision models using metrics developed within our safety framework.
- Collaborate with the safety team to integrate your models into safety evaluation pipelines.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Strong Python scripting skills, including experience with data manipulation libraries like Pandas and NumPy.
- Experience identifying and handling missing values, anomalies, and outliers in large-scale datasets.
- A solid foundation in regression, classification, and hypothesis testing.
- Ability to use AI tooling to experiment, prototype, and harden code.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
- Previous experience in robotics, automotive, or data science is preferred, as is experience with SQL, data mining tools, or creating data visualizations.
