About the role#
Virginia Tech Applied Research Corporation is looking for a student from the TJHSST Research Practicum program to join the STEAD division. This intern will conduct an independent research project under the guidance of a mentor. You will also assist the division with ongoing data analysis and gain exposure to how technical programs are planned and communicated to government sponsors.
What you'll do#
- Design and carry out an independent research project, including defining research questions, reviewing literature, and selecting methods.
- Maintain a research log to document your progress and results.
- Produce required practicum deliverables, such as a final paper, poster, and presentation.
- Support division-level activities by collecting, cleaning, and organizing datasets from public sources.
- Conduct descriptive and exploratory analyses and summarize your findings.
- Create charts, tables, and visualizations for reports and internal briefings.
- Assist with literature searches to support division research and technology forecasting.
- Participate in team meetings and provide updates on your assigned tasks.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current student at TJHSST enrolled in the Research Practicum program.
- Strong written communication skills and attention to detail are required.
- You should be able to work independently and manage your time effectively between school and internship commitments.
- You should feel comfortable asking questions when needed.
Location & details#
- Location: Arlington, Virginia.
- Modality: Hybrid.
- Duration: September 2026 to May 2027, following the TJHSST academic calendar.
- Schedule: 16 hours per week, coordinated with your school schedule.
- Compensation: This is an unpaid internship for academic credit.
