    About the role#

    This externship program provides hands-on experience in emergency medicine. You will work alongside credentialed veterinary technicians to gain a realistic view of emergency care. The program is designed to help you build a foundation in the field and decide if emergency medicine is the right path for your career.

    What you'll do#

    • Pair up with an emergency credentialed veterinary technician for real-time mentoring and on-the-floor learning.
    • Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, and inpatient care.
    • Practice specific skills required by your school proficiency checklist with guidance from your mentor.
    • Experience the teamwork and pace of emergency care at VEG.
    • Explore the daily responsibilities of an emergency veterinary technician.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program, or a program actively seeking accreditation.
    • Enrollment in a course that requires externship hours or skills.
    • Ability to start the program within six months of your application.
    • Current rabies vaccination or titer.
    • Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 kg on your own and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
    • Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.

    • Location: Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
    • This is an unpaid, on-site externship.
    • The program term is rolling.
    • This is a full-time commitment.
