About the role#
The Veterinary Technician Student Externship at VEG ER for Pets provides an immersive, hands-on experience in emergency veterinary medicine. This program is designed for students to gain real-world exposure to the ER environment, work alongside credentialed professionals, and complete required school proficiency checklists.
What you'll do#
- Pair with an emergency credentialed veterinary technician for real-time mentoring and on-the-floor learning.
- Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, and inpatient care.
- Practice technical skills required by your academic program under professional guidance.
- Experience the teamwork and pace of emergency veterinary care.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program, or a program actively seeking accreditation.
- Enrollment in a course that requires externship hours or skills.
- Current rabies vaccination or titer.
- Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor.
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg on your own and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
- Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
