About the role#
The Veterinary Technician Student Externship at VEG provides an immersive, hands-on experience in emergency medicine. You will work directly with credentialed veterinary technicians to explore the reality of emergency care and build a foundation for your future career. This program is designed for students currently enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program who need to complete externship hours or skills.
What you'll do#
- Pair with a credentialed veterinary technician for real-time mentoring and on-the-floor learning.
- Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, and inpatient care.
- Practice specific skills required by your school proficiency checklist with direct guidance.
- Experience the teamwork and pace that defines emergency care at VEG.
- Learn from emergency veterinary professionals in the business.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program, or a program actively seeking accreditation.
- Enrollment in a course that requires externship hours or skills.
- A current rabies vaccination or titer.
- Ability to stand for long hours, kneel, and work on the floor.
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg independently and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
- Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
