Veterinary Technician Student Externship

About the role#

This externship program provides an immersive, hands-on experience in emergency veterinary medicine. You will work directly with credentialed veterinary technicians to gain exposure to the realities of ER care, build your professional foundation, and explore a career in emergency services.

What you'll do#

• Learn from emergency veterinary professionals through real-time mentoring and on-the-floor training.
• Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, and inpatient care.
• Practice specific clinical skills required by your school's proficiency checklist under the guidance of a mentor.
• Experience the teamwork and pace of an emergency veterinary environment.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program, or a program actively seeking accreditation.
• Enrollment in a course that requires externship hours or skills.
• Proof of a current rabies vaccination or titer.
• Ability to stand for prolonged periods, kneel, and work on the floor.
• Ability to lift up to 25 kg independently and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
• Willingness to work in a noisy environment that may involve strong or unpleasant odors.
