    About the role#

    This externship provides a hands-on, immersive experience in emergency medicine. You will work alongside credentialed emergency veterinary technicians to gain real-world exposure to the field. This program is designed for students who want to build a foundation in emergency care and decide if this career path is the right fit for them.

    What you'll do#

    • Pair with an emergency credentialed veterinary technician for real-time mentoring and on-the-floor learning.
    • Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, and inpatient care.
    • Practice specific skills required by your school proficiency checklist with guidance from your mentor.
    • Experience the teamwork and pace of emergency veterinary care.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program, or a program actively seeking accreditation.
    • Enrollment in a course that requires externship hours or skills.
    • Ability to start the program within six months of application.
    • Current rabies vaccination or titer.
    • Ability to stand for long periods, kneel, and work on the floor.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 kg on your own and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
    • Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
