    About the role#

    This externship program provides an immersive, hands-on experience in emergency veterinary medicine. You will work alongside credentialed technicians to gain real-world exposure to the emergency environment. This is an unpaid opportunity designed to help you build a foundation in clinical skills and decide if emergency medicine is the right career path for you.

    What you'll do#

    • Pair with an emergency credentialed veterinary technician for real-time mentoring.
    • Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, and inpatient care.
    • Practice specific skills required by your school’s proficiency checklist.
    • Experience the teamwork and pace of emergency care.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program, or a program actively seeking accreditation.
    • Enrollment in a course that requires externship hours or skills.
    • Ability to start the program within six months of application.
    • Current rabies vaccination or titer.
    • Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 kg on your own and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
    • Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
