    About the role#

    This externship provides nursing students with a hands-on, immersive experience in emergency medicine. You will work alongside credentialed veterinary technicians to gain real-world exposure to the ER environment. This program is designed to help you build a strong foundation and explore your potential in emergency care.

    What you'll do#

    • Pair up with an emergency credentialed veterinary technician for real-time mentoring.
    • Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, and diagnostics.
    • Support the team with anesthesia and inpatient care.
    • Practice specific skills required by your school’s proficiency checklist.
    • Engage in the hands-on, daily operations of an emergency veterinary hospital.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program, or a program actively seeking accreditation.
    • Enrollment in a course that requires externship hours or skills.
    • Ability to start the program within six months of application.
    • Current rabies vaccination or titer.
    • Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor.
    • Physical ability to lift up to 25 kg independently and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
    • Willingness to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
    • Strong sense of ownership, curiosity, and humility.
    • An empathetic, people-centric approach to teamwork.
