About the role#
The DVM Externship at VEG ER for Pets provides veterinary students with an intensive, hands-on experience in emergency medicine. This program allows students to work directly with experienced emergency doctors to build essential clinical and communication skills. The externship is designed to support students in exploring emergency medicine while gaining practical experience in a clinical setting.
What you'll do#
- Work alongside highly skilled emergency doctors.
- Collaborate with the team in an emergency environment.
- Learn to diagnose a variety of emergent conditions.
- Develop treatment plans and assist with medical records.
- Learn to effectively communicate with customers.
- Scrub into surgeries.
What you'll need#
- Must be a 3rd or 4th year student currently enrolled in an AVMA accredited veterinary school.
- Maintain active AVMA/PLIT personal liability insurance.
- Maintain personal medical insurance.
- Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor.
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg on own and support up to 40 kg with assistance.
- Ability to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors.
