About the role#
This is an 8-week summer externship in Medical Oncology at UVA Health in Manassas, Virginia. You will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to gain clinical experience and support patient care. The program runs from June 14, 2027, through August 7, 2027. You will work 36 to 40 hours per week, typically consisting of three 12-hour shifts. You must be flexible to work either day or night shifts to match your assigned preceptor's schedule.
What you'll do#
- Perform patient care and administrative support tasks under RN supervision.
- Assist patients with personal care and perform basic nursing skills as delegated.
- Maintain a safe environment and ensure the safe delivery of care.
- Collaborate with physicians and team members to improve care processes.
- Coordinate patient care using time management, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Partner with patients and their families to resolve concerns regarding health care delivery.
- Provide progress updates to the team and assist with departmental meetings.
- Maintain necessary skills and competencies throughout the program.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a nursing student entering your last year of school.
- A graduation date between December 2027 and May 2028.
- BSN students must have completed their 3rd year.
- ASN students must have completed their 1st year.
