About the role#
This internship offers an opportunity to join the Utah Retirement Systems investment team. You will function as an extension of the staff, working on projects that involve real estate investments for a 40 billion dollar pension plan. This role focuses on institutional investment strategies, analytical research, and practical application of financial theory.
What you'll do#
- Support the team with due diligence on real estate investments, including gathering information and participating in calls or meetings.
- Compile materials for Investment Committee presentations.
- Define project scopes and objectives alongside investment staff.
- Research market activity, portfolio sensitivity, and new market innovations.
- Draft research papers and prepare reports for the investment department.
- Collaborate with internal staff and outside advisers.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all investment activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in business, with an emphasis in real estate. Preference is given to graduate candidates.
- Previous experience in real estate acquisitions, appraising, leasing, or property management.
- Introductory knowledge of Microsoft Office, Access, Visual Basic, SQL, and Bloomberg.
- Familiarity with Argus or similar real estate underwriting software.
- Working knowledge of accounting and auditing principles.
- Understanding of financial forecasting, investment performance measures, and risk analysis.
- Ability to work independently and within a team, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Location: Salt Lake City, Utah.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Rolling.
- Hours: Up to 29 hours per week for one year, or up to 40 hours per week for six months.
- Compliance: Employees must submit records of security transactions to the Investment Compliance Officer.
