Library Student Assistant

About the role#

The Digital Initiatives unit of Special Collections is seeking students to support digital accessibility, born-digital archives, and the Oral History Program. This role involves working with collections focused on USF Archives, Florida Studies, and the Florida Environment and Natural History collections. You will work 20 hours per week in an on-site capacity.

What you'll do#

• Transcribe handwritten materials, including cursive documents, and audio recordings.
• Reformat and edit digital documents.
• Create and maintain metadata for digital collections.
• Upload and manage digital content within Digital Initiatives workflows.
• Conduct research to verify names, places, and events.
• Use text analysis and AI tools to generate metadata keywords and write abstracts.
• Utilize Microsoft Office Suite, transcription software, project management databases, and audio editing software.

What you'll need#

• Must be a current USF student.
• Proficiency with reading cursive handwriting.
• Strong writing and communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to and work across a variety of digital tools and technologies.
