About the role#
The Institute of Applied Engineering at the University of South Florida offers an internship for the Winter 2027 term. You will join technical and operational teams to support Department of Defense mission requirements. This program provides an opportunity to work alongside professionals to build technical solutions and contribute to mission-focused initiatives. Interns receive mentorship from experienced engineering and program staff.
What you'll do#
- Research, design, and develop enterprise-wide software systems and applications.
- Develop and integrate IT solutions while meeting requirements for security and quality.
- Design and build product deliverables based on specific project requirements.
- Facilitate collaboration, integration, and testing support.
- Communicate concepts and guidelines to development teams.
- Document testing, maintenance, and system corrections.
- Escalate technical design issues to task managers.
- Contribute to planning system deployment and development.
- Evaluate the interface between hardware and software systems.
- Complete routine technical tasks and solve technical problems of limited scope.
What you'll need#
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Eligible to obtain a security clearance.
- Actively enrolled in an undergraduate degree program (Junior or Senior standing preferred).
- Current GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to learn new technologies and tools quickly.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
- Relevant coursework or experience in fields such as Computer Science, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, Mathematics, or Statistics.
Location & details#
- Location: Tampa, Florida.
- Modality: Primarily on-site with limited remote-work opportunities based on project requirements.
- Compensation: $25.00 per hour.
- Schedule: Maximum of 20 hours per week during the semester.
- Employment Status: Part-time.
