About the role#
This is a 10-week, paid, full-time summer internship for nursing students. You will work alongside an RN preceptor in a clinical environment to build your skills in communication, critical thinking, and time management. The program aims to increase your clinical competence and confidence as you prepare for your nursing career.
What you'll do#
Under the direct supervision of an RN preceptor, you will provide patient care for individuals and their families. Your responsibilities include:
- Administering medications and blood products.
- Initiating, monitoring, or discontinuing IVs and adjusting IV pumps.
- Performing baseline and post-transfusion vital signs.
- Managing external ventriculostomy tubes and performing tracheostomy tube changes or suctioning.
- Reading or leveling CVP lines and assessing monitoring equipment.
- Performing gastric tube insertion, irrigation, and initiating nasogastric tube feeding.
- Administering oxygen and performing throat cultures in non-ED departments.
- Applying sterile dressings.
- Counting and accepting delivery of narcotics.
- Conducting independent patient check-ins in pre-op and documenting in a circulator role.
What you'll need#
- You must be enrolled in a nursing program at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland State University, Hiram College, Kent State University, University of Mount Union, University of Akron, John Carroll, or Ursuline College.
- Your expected graduation date must be December 2027 or May 2028.
- You are required to enroll in the corresponding class offered by your school.
