About the role#
The Student Nurse Extern I program provides nursing students with practical work experience to help transition into the role of a registered nurse. You will gain hands-on experience across various areas including acute care, critical care, emergency care, psychiatry, and surgical outpatient settings. This is a paid, part-time position with a variable schedule.
What you'll do#
- Perform direct patient care under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient conditions to your supervising RN.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as personal hygiene, nutrition, and ambulation.
- Document the care you provide.
- Work collaboratively with the patient care team and other disciplines to coordinate care, including transfers and discharges.
- Provide patient and family education based on their specific needs and circumstances.
- Advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
- Support performance improvement initiatives and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and coworkers.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current enrollment as a 3rd year student or higher in a School of Professional Nursing.
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

- Compensation: $17.16 to $20.38 per hour.
