About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to gain practical experience applying electrical engineering concepts to industrial motor and variable frequency drive (VFD) applications. You will work alongside Applications Engineers and other technical and commercial team members to learn how customer operating requirements are translated into product and application solutions. You will gain exposure to VFD technology, electric motors, industrial applications, and the commercial processes that support engineered product solutions.
What you'll do#
- Assist Applications Engineers with the review of customer specifications, application requirements, and technical documentation.
- Support the selection and application of VFDs for industrial motor applications.
- Gather and evaluate application information such as motor characteristics, voltage, horsepower, load requirements, and operating conditions.
- Prepare technical information used to support customer proposals and quotations.
- Review product configurations to determine alignment with customer requirements.
- Collaborate with Applications Engineering, Sales, and Product Management to address technical questions.
- Develop and maintain product documentation, application notes, and technical presentations.
- Participate in technical discussions regarding VFD operation, electric motor control, and power electronics.
- Conduct research on technical requirements, product capabilities, and industry standards.
- Support engineering projects involving data analysis and process improvement.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline.
- Completed or ongoing coursework in electrical circuits, electronics, electric machines, power systems, controls, or power electronics.
- Basic understanding of AC electrical systems and engineering principles.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and engineering documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Ability to work both independently and within a cross-functional team.
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn technical products.
- Coursework or project experience involving power electronics, electric motors, motor controls, or VFDs is preferred.
- Familiarity with three-phase AC power, induction motors, control systems, or PLCs is a plus.
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink or similar engineering analysis tools.
- Previous engineering internship, laboratory, or hands-on technical experience.
