About the role#
The Nuclear Company is building a fleet of nuclear reactors. Our Applied Research and AI team solves the problems that determine how these plants are built and operated. You will work on construction sequencing, capital allocation, and infrastructure security. This is a 12-week summer fellowship where you will build models that inform real-world decisions.
What you'll do#
- Translate operational processes like construction scheduling and security operations into modeling problems.
- Build environments that simulate these processes to train and evaluate your models.
- Develop reinforcement learning, optimization, or forecasting models.
- Design rigorous experiments and maintain reproducible codebases.
- Collaborate with engineering to move models into production systems.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an MS or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Operations Management, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Production-quality experience with Python and PyTorch.
- Hands-on experience with reinforcement learning or mathematical optimization.
- Ability to formulate real-world processes into tractable modeling problems.
- Demonstrated capability in experimental design and reproducible research practices.
- Status as a U.S. Person, as this role is subject to U.S. export controls.

- This internship is based in Washington, DC.
- The role is on-site five days a week for the 12-week duration.
- The term is Summer 2027.
- This is a paid position.
