About the role#
We are building a battery-powered smart camera for our stores. You will own the 3D-printed housing design from the first sketch to the final version used on hundreds of units. You will work with our hardware engineers to iterate on prototypes and see your design installed in a live retail environment.
What you'll do#
- Design a compact, robust enclosure in CAD for the camera module, Pi Zero 2 W, power board, battery compartment, M12 lens, and glare screen.
- Create a glare screen or hood that blocks reflections without obstructing the wide field of view of the lens.
- Include features for tool-free battery replacement, lens access for focusing, a status LED window, and a service button.
- Develop mounting features for store shelves and fixtures that can withstand a retail floor.
- Print, assemble, and test prototypes while refining tolerances and assembly time.
- Deliver production-ready files, including STEP and STL formats, along with a short assembly guide.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Canadian university or college program focused on Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Design.
- Strong 3D CAD skills using tools like SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Onshape.
- Hands-on experience designing for 3D printing, including knowledge of tolerances, wall thickness, and print orientation.
- Experience with enclosure features such as snap-fits, heat-set inserts, bosses, and cable routing.
- Ability to work from mechanical drawings and electronics models like PCB outlines and connector layouts.
- A portfolio of designed and printed parts is preferred.
- Familiarity with basic optics, electronics, or Raspberry Pi projects is an asset.
