About the role#
This internship supports our Geotechnical service line. You will work alongside engineering professionals to gain hands-on experience in the field and laboratory. We assign each intern a mentor to help with career planning and technical skill development. You will also join a cohort of other interns to build your professional network and share experiences. The program concludes with a summit where you can meet company leaders.
What you'll do#
- Learn site safety and safe work practices.
- Perform sampling or testing as directed.
- Assist field and laboratory personnel with routine tasks.
- Transport equipment, specimens, or documents.
- Provide physical assistance in equipment set-up.
- Learn industry-standard proposal and report writing practices.
- Prepare reports and communicate test results to clients.
- Understand test procedures such as ASTM, DOT, and COE.
- Learn about laboratory organization, scheduling, and efficiency.
- Gain exposure to quality management systems and client interaction.
- Execute projects safely, accurately, and profitably.
- Manage change orders.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil or construction engineering.
- Interest in consulting and fieldwork.
- Demonstrated curiosity, teamwork, and alignment with our values.
- A valid driver’s license with an acceptable violation history may be required.

- Location: Des Moines, Iowa.
- Term: Summer 2027 (May through August).
