The Mechanical Engineering Intern will join the Lightspeed Tech Center to work on projects at the intersection of mechanical design, hardware development, and embedded systems. This role involves contributing to the design, prototyping, and testing of innovative electromechanical systems within a multidisciplinary team.
What you'll do#
- Participate in the design and development of mechanical components and systems using CAD software and rapid prototyping techniques.
- Assist in the assembly, integration, and testing of mechanical hardware with embedded systems and electronic components.
- Build and iterate on physical prototypes using methods such as 3D printing and machining.
- Develop and execute test plans to validate system performance and reliability.
- Utilize C++ programming for system control, data acquisition, and hardware interfacing within a Linux environment.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, assembly instructions, and test reports.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to achieve project goals.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including statics, dynamics, materials science, and thermodynamics.
- Proficiency in C++ programming.
- Familiarity with the Linux operating system and command-line interface.
- Experience with embedded systems, such as microcontrollers, sensors, and actuators.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

- Location: Bellevue, Washington.
- Term: Rolling.
- Modality: On-site, full-time.
- Compensation: Paid position with an expected base pay range of $80,168.40 to $124,800.00 per year.
- Benefits: Eligible for paid sick leave, up to 13 paid holidays, and enrollment in the company-sponsored medical plan for full-time interns, subject to plan terms.
