About the role#
As a Field Intern, you will work alongside Tallgrass Operations Specialists and Technicians to gain hands-on experience with pipeline infrastructure. This is a temporary, full-time, on-site position based in Kearney, Nebraska. The internship runs for 10 weeks between May and August 2026.
What you'll do#
- Operate and maintain pipelines, compressors, engines, turbines, motors, cooling equipment, pump stations, pumps, dehydration equipment, valves, and seals.
- Perform preventative maintenance checks and support the diagnosis and repair of engines, turbines, pumps, seals, valves, and instruments.
- Handle general upkeep and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
- Learn tasks related to electrical, measurement, and control integrity, including design, installation, inspection, maintenance, operation, troubleshooting, repair, calibration, and adjustment.
- Develop Operations and Maintenance Procedures, site-specific procedures, project scopes, and work plans.
- Participate in safety programs, documentation, and record-keeping.
What you'll need#
- High School Diploma.
- Active enrollment in or recent completion (within 3 months) of a relevant technical or associate degree program, such as Mechanics, Energy, Construction, Industrial Electrician, Electromechanical, or Measurement.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, SharePoint, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to perform basic repairs and maintenance using special tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn measurement and control equipment.
- Basic understanding of schematics, engineering drawings, technical reports, safety rules, and maintenance instructions.
- Ability to collect, organize, interpret, and present data accurately.
- Strong focus on safe work practices and a commitment to the safety of employees, company assets, and the public.
- Ability to take direction, maintain a work schedule, and follow work rules.
- Must be able to work outdoors, on elevated platforms, ladders, and walkways.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Successful completion of a drug screen and background check, including a credit report where applicable, is required post-offer.

- Compensation: $30.60 per hour. The total package may include paid time off and a housing stipend.
