About the role#
The Welder Intern role focuses on developing foundational welding and fabrication skills through hands-on training and supervised production experience. You will work alongside experienced welders to learn safe equipment operation, interpret technical documentation, and meet quality standards. This position is designed to help you build technical expertise and problem-solving abilities within a manufacturing environment.
What you'll do#
- Operate welding tools and hand tools like die grinders and angle grinders safely.
- Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and heat numbers.
- Follow standard work, training guides, and established weld procedures.
- Assist with basic robot operation, including loading and unloading parts and completing daily maintenance checks.
- Rotate through various work areas to learn about different products and welding applications.
- Support daily production activities and report any welds that fall outside of tolerance.
- Identify and report inconsistencies or defects in materials, products, or equipment.
- Make basic adjustments to fabrication parts to ensure proper fit and alignment.
- Maintain a positive, collaborative work atmosphere while meeting safety and quality objectives.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an approved Welding program.
- Maintenance of good standing with your educational institution throughout the internship.
- Basic computer skills including experience with Windows, email, and internet navigation.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to learn new tasks and remember complex processes.
- Ability to work independently and make timely decisions within a workflow.
- Capacity to communicate effectively with visitors and team members.
- Physical ability to perform tasks in a manufacturing environment, including climbing ladders or stairs, stooping, crouching, kneeling, and bending.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds from floor to waist, carry 50 pounds, and push or pull up to 100 pounds.
- Capability to handle, feel, and grip materials and maintain visual acuity for quality inspection.
- Ability to maintain focus and complete tasks in situations with productivity quotas.
