About the role#
Steffes is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer Co-Op for Fall 2026 and Winter 2027. This is a full-time, on-site position based in Shelby, North Carolina. You will work directly with production teams to improve processes, resolve shop floor issues, and manage production control tasks.
What you'll do#
- Participate in projects focused on safety, quality, cost, and delivery.
- Support LEAN events including Kaizens, 5S, Value Stream mapping, and VAVE.
- Design production tools, fixtures, and devices.
- Create and maintain standard work instructions for production and administrative tasks.
- Conduct time and motion analysis studies.
- Review and process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
- Assist with quality specifications and documentation requirements.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for nonconformance.
- Spend time in the production shop to learn processes and recommend improvements.
What you'll need#
- At least 2 years of coursework in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word and Excel, plus basic knowledge of PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Intermediate math skills and general computer proficiency.
- Experience with 2D or 3D CAD software like AutoCAD, PTC Creo, or SolidWorks is preferred.
- Strong communication skills to interact with co-workers, customers, and suppliers.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, push or pull 20 pounds, and climb ladders or stairs.
- Ability to stoop, crouch, kneel, and bend, with the visual acuity required for inspection tasks.
