About the role#
This internship takes place at Aluminum Dynamics in the Casthouse Department. You will work on-site during the summer of 2027. This position offers a balance of office-based engineering tasks and hands-on industrial work. You will work alongside operators and maintenance teams on the production floor to apply engineering principles to real equipment and systems.
What you'll do#
- Assist with scrap analysis and alloy verification using spectrometry and other lab tools.
- Support melt shop operations by collecting and analyzing production data.
- Identify yield loss points and recommend improvements for efficiency and recovery.
- Participate in scrap recovery and process optimization projects.
- Develop sorting criteria and track melt loss.
- Collaborate with operators, engineers, and lab personnel across shifts.
- Gain hands-on experience in casting operations.
- Contribute to quality assurance efforts by validating lab results.
- Support round robin testing and ensure compliance with accuracy standards.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Materials Science or Engineering.
- A preferred GPA of at least 2.7.
