About the role#
This internship provides a mix of office-based engineering work and hands-on industrial experience. You will work alongside operators and maintenance teams on the production floor to apply engineering principles to equipment and systems. This role is based in the Galv Department at the Southwest Flat Roll Division.
What you'll do#
- Assist with scrap analysis and alloy verification using spectrometry and other lab tools.
- Support melt shop operations by collecting and analyzing production data.
- Identify yield loss points and recommend improvements for efficiency and recovery.
- Participate in scrap recovery and process optimization projects.
- Collaborate with operators, engineers, and lab personnel across shifts.
- Gain hands-on experience in casting operations.
- Contribute to quality assurance efforts by validating lab results and supporting round robin testing.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- A preferred GPA of at least 2.7.
