About the role#
This internship provides a balance of office-based engineering work and hands-on industrial experience at our Flat Roll Division. You will work alongside operators and maintenance teams on the production floor, applying engineering principles directly to equipment and systems. This role is a full-time, paid position based in Butler, Indiana, for the Summer 2027 term.
What you'll do#
- Assist with substation reliability and preventative maintenance, including inspections and spare parts planning.
- Support engineering teams on safety initiatives like labeling, schematic reviews, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Participate in upgrade and installation projects by reviewing diagrams and updating system documentation.
- Contribute to instrumentation and control projects by assisting with HMI programming and logic development.
- Help troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including sourcing replacement components.
- Perform inventory management tasks such as cataloging materials and preparing bills of materials.
- Gain hands-on field experience by shadowing electricians during installations and maintenance.
- Collaborate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams on electrical projects and process improvements.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
- Coursework or experience in electrical machinery, power distribution, PLCs/automation systems, or power electronics/drives.
- A preferred GPA of at least 2.7.
