About the role#
We are hiring two full-time interns to join the Montana Department of Transportation for the Summer 2027 season. This role focuses on land surveying, where you will work alongside experienced staff on transportation projects across the state. You will spend significant time in the field collecting data that our design teams use for bridge and roadway projects.
What you'll do#
- Support survey staff with control, topographic, cadastral, hydraulics, and bathymetric surveys.
- Travel to various project sites to gather survey data.
- Use total station and robotic survey equipment.
- Conduct level loops and GPS surveys.
- Perform point and line coding to collect data.
- Post-process data in the office using CAD software.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a college or university.
- Completion of at least 60 credit hours by the end of the spring 2027 semester.
- A degree focus in Civil Engineering, Land Surveying, GIS, Geospatial, or Photogrammetry.
- A resume detailing your work history and qualifications.
- A cover letter of no more than two pages.
