About the role#
This internship provides hands-on experience with transportation projects across Montana. You will work on active construction sites or assist with the planning and design of future highway infrastructure. Interns collaborate with staff to support the maintenance and development of the state transportation system.
What you'll do#
- Perform construction oversight on roads and bridges.
- Conduct field reviews and on-site visits to monitor contractor progress.
- Assist in real-time problem solving on active jobs.
- Perform material testing, sampling, and surveying.
- Support GIS mapping and data collection.
- Assist with paving, seal and cover, striping, earthwork, and gravel placement.
- Contribute to the design and planning of future highway projects.
- Write technical reports and perform grading inspections.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a College, University, or Tech School.
- Pursuing a degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
- Preference for students entering their junior year or those who have completed at least 60 credit hours.
- For 2-year Tech School programs, a minimum of 30 credit hours completed.
Location & details#
- Location: Lewis and Clark, Montana.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
- Modality: On-site and remote options are available depending on the specific position.
- Compensation: Paid internship with pay rates based on completed credit hours.
