About the role#
As a Manufacturing Engineering Intern, you will work under the supervision of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. You will collaborate with our engineering team to identify methods that increase productivity and maximize efficiency by removing waste from production processes. You will help integrate workers, machines, materials, and information to improve how we manufacture products. Depending on your performance and company needs, this role may lead to a full-time position upon graduation.
What you'll do#
- Improve and manage manufacturing processes to make the best use of employees, machinery, and other assets.
- Design and implement new processes or tooling for new products, including research, purchasing decisions, and staffing assessments.
- Perform operational studies, such as time studies and productivity analysis, to improve existing operations.
- Ensure process controls are in place for new and existing equipment, including TPM, PM, and safety compliance.
- Develop training materials and conduct sessions on process control activities.
- Recommend updates to standard operating procedures and work instructions.
- Train and direct workers regarding process performance and data collection.
- Devise sampling procedures and design forms for recording and evaluating process output.
- Develop test plans and evaluate production and testing equipment.
- Study material flow and operations sequence to maximize workflow and spatial utilization.
- Manage key improvement projects, develop value stream maps, and schedule Kaizen events.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing methodology and report on cost savings.
- Support environmental and safety compliance programs.
- Help design prototypes or modifications to existing products and equipment.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area while supporting company and safety policies.
What you'll need#
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or status as an engineering student with at least three years of coursework completed plus three years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation software.
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret technical instructions, write reports, and present information effectively.
- Preferred: Experience with AutoCAD, Inventor, Solid Modeling, and 3D design.
- Preferred: Familiarity with heavy equipment manufacturing, welding technology, control panels, and materials technology.
- Ability to apply mathematical operations such as frequency distribution and sampling theory.
