About the role#
Southwest Airlines is hiring for a Summer 2027 Aircraft Engineering Internship. This is a full-time, paid, on-site role based in Dallas, Texas. The program runs for 12 weeks from May 18 to August 8, 2027. You will work 40 hours per week at our headquarters facility.
What you'll do#
- Work on engineering projects within a maintenance or operations environment.
- Develop and maintain data structures to support analytics projects.
- Create engineering documents, such as Engineering Authorizations or Engineering Orders, and handle ad hoc maintenance tasks.
- Conduct research projects and assist with special events.
- Communicate project updates to all levels of the department, from frontline employees to department leadership.
- Present findings and project results to department leadership.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Currently enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a degree in Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aviation Maintenance Science, or another engineering-related field.
- Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.
- At least 18 years of age and a valid U.S. Social Security Number.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Preferred: At least 3 semesters remaining in your degree program after the internship ends.
- Preferred: Prior work or internship experience in an engineering role or aviation environment.
- Preferred: Completion of 9 hours of engineering-related coursework.
- Preferred: Basic knowledge of engineering drawings, technical writing, data analytics, and software creation.
- Preferred: Understanding of aircraft structures, avionics, systems, and powerplants.
Location & details#
- Location: Dallas, Texas.
- Work Modality: On-site at our corporate campus.
- Compensation: $24-$28 per hour, based on progress toward your degree.
