ASL Technology Research Internship – ASL Linguistics

About the role#

This is a 6-month, full-time internship focused on the intersection of ASL linguistics and technology. You will join the generation team to support the development of English-to-Gloss translation models and avatar signing pipelines. This position requires a combination of linguistic knowledge and technical aptitude to help bridge the gap between sign language research and practical application.

What you'll do#

• Work on glossing and annotating ASL Classifier (CL) video data.
• Design a CL inventory for integration into the company dictionary, culminating in a final project demo.
• Assist in the design of evaluation frameworks, including A/B testing, for CL outputs.
• Perform high-level feature labeling and minimal pair analysis.
• Collaborate with the team to refine annotation schemas.

What you'll need#

• Native-level ASL signing skills.
• Educational background in linguistics, computer science, data science, or a related field.
• Comfort using video annotation tools or performing basic data analysis.
• Interest in sign language generation technology.
• Familiarity with ASL classifier systems is considered a plus.

• Compensation: Paid position ($20-$30/hr depending on experience).
